Ganesha Chaturthi Puja
September 10th, 2010 by Sowmya

Ganesha Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi is observed in the month of Bhadrapada, as per the Hindu Calendar.

It falls on the shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the waxing moon period) day and corresponds to the month of between 16th August to 15th September in the English Calendar. The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi (fourteenth day of the waxing moon period).

In 2013, Ganesha Chaturthi falls on Monday, the 9th of September. Ganesha Chaturthi puja is now available in multiple Indian scripts (Thanks to Aksharamukha transliterator).

We also have the Jaya Ganesha Arati and the Sukha Karta Arati available here.

The Ganapathy Homam and Gowri Vrata puja can be accessed from these separate posts

This is very useful. However since we are doing it for first time i am not getting some directions of how the kalash bsould be placed and ganesh idol should be placed. Also if Kalash needs to be closed with plates on top?. If there are some more details then this would be very useful for newbie like me. If anybody can post it would help me.

    Thanks,

The Kalash is placed firmly on a Copper/Silver plate which has the rice on it. The Coconut is placed over the mouth of the Kalash. The five mango leaves are placed inside the kalash before placing the coconut (like a skirting).

The Ganesha Idol can be placed above on a table/stool and the Kalasha and its plate can be placed in the ground.

I will try and post some pictures of these so that it will be useful for people who are doing this and other pujas for the first time..

    Dear Madam,
I have found the pooja vidhanam given above very useful and have been using it for the past two years.
I request you if you can add two more, the Surya pooja which we do during Pongal and Karthik swamy pooja which is done during Skanda sashti on Soorasam.

    Namaskaram,

Very well done. I have a question, in sankalpam we were asked to hold a fruit and at the end to put it in front of god.
my question is: is this the fruit that we are supposed to take as prasadam at the end.

    thanks
    Regards
